The Eighteenth Japan-Korea Joint Symposium on Bio-microsensing Technology (18th JKBT)
-Next-generation biotechnology in an era of dramatic change-

This Symposium was started 18 years ago to discuss the latest results of research on biosensing and related technologies in Korea and Japan. We have been not only expanded this symposium with Korean Universities, but also with Asian universities including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Poland, and other countries. We are delighted to have the tenth one today and I would like to express our sincere thanks to all of the participants. Kitakyushu has been one of the biggest industrial cities in Japan, harboring such companies as Nippon Steel and Mitsubishi Chemicals, which helped to boost industrialization and modernization of Japan over the last century or so. Our Institute, founded a century ago, also contributed to the development of engineering in Japan by raising many engineers and cooperating with companies. The motto of this Institute has been to raise capable engineers with gentleman ship, and this spirit is succeeded in the second century for this Institute starting last year. This symposium aims at developing biosensors and related technologies, which are one of the key technologies in life sciences and in enhancing human welfare. I believe close cooperation of neighbors in such promising fields as biosensors is of utmost importance for the improvement in the quality of our life. I would like to thank again all of the participants for their attendance. I hope that this Symposium will not only be fruitful to all of the participants but also become an important bridge between Japan and Korea through biochip research and various state-of-the-art technologies. Thank you very much.
